Why Raise Funds for Ministry?

By Ugmission
Does God really need our money to build His Kingdom on Earth? ……Salvation is free because Jesus paid the price, but preaching salvation incurs expenses. If every one tithes regularly, it is said that even the Social Security Schemes in developed countries may not be needed. But the truth is that the average Christian gives only 2% of his income to any form of ministry.
WHY PEOPLE FAIL/HESITATE TO GIVE?

Lack of understanding of the blessing in giving. Many have never tasted it.Lack of knowledge and appreciation of the fact that giving is actually the best investment one can make short sightedness of looking for quick returns on investment. Failing to see/understand the clear vision of the organization to whom money/abilities is to be given .Inability to show the donor the return on his investment.

“One more revival—only one more—is needed, the revival of Christian stewardship, the consecration of the money power to God. When that revival comes, the kingdom of God will come in a day.” -Horace Bushnell

WHY PEOPLE FAIL/HESITATE TO RAISE FUNDS?

Common excuses for not raising funds

i. If you really have faith fund raising is not necessary at all

ii. I’m a minister, fundraising job belongs to my Organization

iii. I don’t have enough relationships and potential donors

iv. People will suspect that I’m just out there for money

v. Fund raising is dirty work. There is nothing as a ‘ministry’ of fund raising

vi. I simply don’t understand what is meant by fund raising

vii. You cant be fund-raiser & friend, both are mutually exclusive

“There are three conversions necessary: the conversion of the Heart, Mind and the Purse”.-Martin Luther

GIVING DURING BIBLICAL TIMES

During biblical times people gave for various causes, like-

· Restoring the Temple (2Kings 12:1-12; 2 Chr 24:8-14)

· Construction and maintenance of God’ temple - Ex 25:2; 35:4.9; 2ki 12:4,5; 1Chro29:6,9

· Supporting the ministry and the ministries - Phil4:14-16; 3Jn7,8

· Helping the poor and the needy -Lev19:9, 10; Deut 24:19-22; Pro28:27; Mar10:21; Acts 2:45;

· Helping the sick and the suffering- Matt25:35,36

· Caring for the displaced at Pentecost (Acts 2:44-45; 4:32-35)

· Relieving famine in Jerusalem (1 Cor 16:1-3; 2 Cor 8:1-15)

· Supporting Paul’s ministry (Phil 4:10-20)

Churches with vision attract resources even today, therefore let Church understand that she has certain fundamental responsibility like:-

-Teach the word of God systematically from pulpit

-support the poor and the needy, orphans and widows

-provide good fellowship to one all encouraging spiritual growth

-Outreach ministry to fulfill the ‘Great commission’

If any church does all the above, then most people will not hesitate to give their full tithes and additional offerings to the church. Funds will come even before the need is expressed

SOME GOOD FUND RAISING PRINCIPLES

Have a clear vision, goals and action plans

Articulate these and sell it to potential donors

Make personal contacts with prospective donors

Be responsible and accountable to all stake holders

Send regular info/report to the donors on how the money is being spent

Recognize that donors are at different stages (contacts, prospects regular )

Make your personal contribution upfront

Commit the entire process prayerfully to Almighty God.

Try to raise friends than funds. If salvation is preached, why not stewardship?
