Still Well!
By Darcel Joi Jeffers
Stillwell Avenue, the only street name that caught my eye. The only street name that made me think. It got me to think. It should get you thinking as well. When I think of being still well, I think about all the bad things in this world that can happen at any moment, during any time of the day. I think of all the people and all the struggles they go through. I also think of me, and how my struggles don't even compare to those around the world.

Are you still well? Before you answer that question, think. Think very, very hard. After everything that happened to you, where are you now? Do you still have a place to sleep? Do you have clothes on your back? Do you have a family that loves you?

Yesterday, when I was in New York, I passed a street named Stillwell Avenue. I began to think of all the bad things and all the sad things in my life. But, when I was done, all I could do was smile and say, "I'm still well!" After everything that happened, I was still well.

Now, today as I walked the halls of my school. I tried to look past people's appearances. I tried as hard as I could to look, deep down, and not only see their faces, but I wanted to see their hearts. Many people try to hide how they feel, and it's upsetting to me. Why should we wear a mask? Why should we walk around with a false spirit? Telling us what we can or cannot do? Be, or cannot be? I know for sure, that I will be who I am!
Why won't you? Sometimes, the case is that you're afraid. Maybe you don't know who you are in the first place. But everyone has a purpose in life. You could save the world one day. Or you can make somebody's day, every day. There is no big or small, huge or little. Everyone places a role in this life, in this world. We all have a special part that we have to, and contribute. So don't feel down. Don't sell yourself short. Because I'm still well. And you will be too. Love Life.
