PURPOSE, POWER, and A
PLAN
It is a New Year, and everywhere you turn you will be
hearing about New Year's resolutions. You will make a list of the things you
want to improve or correct in the New Year, and surprisingly it looks pretty
much like the list you prepared last year. I do not want to upset you or bore
you with my list of things we all need to change in the year 2011. I want to
challenge you to put your list away and look deeper. The reason why we seem to
have the same list every year is because we rarely sit down and try to figure
out why we never accomplished our tasks the year before. After a while, we give
up. It has become a normal fact that New Year's resolutions are created but
rarely completed. It has become acceptable; even with businesses, the marketing
changes in the New Year. Due to everyone setting resolutions to lose weight you
will find more gym membership commercials and discounts for the New Year.This is not a bad thing. It is great that we
have the desire to do better, but we have to be honest with the fact that there
is something missing. There is something that is not being addressed that is
causing the continuous cycle of starting something, we know we need to do,
something we know is important, and then getting to that point where giving up
and quitting is our choice. Many resolutions can result in death, but we give
up and go back to our normal ways of doing things.
Resolution is defined as the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, or procedure; resolving to do something. So a New Year's resolution should not be just a list, but it should be something that you have thought about, prepared and prayed on to develop a plan and strategy to complete. It is actually something that you take to God; so that he can begin to speak to you regarding your concerns, and then he can tell you the plan of action. Your only responsibility would then be is to follow and be obedient. Okay, you may be thinking, what is Shanick talking about it? It is not that serious, it is only a New Years resolution. Well, my brothers and sisters it is that serious. You have the power to go into the New Year with purpose, power, and a plan to make absolutely anything happen. What other time is more appropriate than the beginning of a year. No need to look back at last year trying to figure out what went wrong, and why things did not turn out how you planned. You have been given a new chance, just like every other year, but this year is going to be different. This year you know what a resolution truly is, and you know how serious this time can really be. You are going to go into the year doing things a little different.
1. You MUST seek God for his definition and design for you.
Word: Genesis: 1: 27- 28 (Amplified) So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them. And God blessed them and said to them, be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.
Psalms 139:14 (King James) I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right
well.
Romans 8: 17 (King James) And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Prayer: Lord God, please just give me a glimpse of what you see when you see me. I know I have been living daily bruised and broken from life's experiences and lack of experiences. Wrong has appeared right and I have gone on living day to day knowing that there is more to this life you died to give me. I have allowed layers of life to cover up the true image you originally created. Your word tells me that I look like you made in your image, strategically placed together marvelously, I am royalty a joint heir to the kingdom, and you created me to have dominion and territory. Wow Lord, open up my heart and mind to see me as you see me. Not to be proud or boastful, but to recognize how powerful and important my existence is only because I have you, and you are my source. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Isn't that something? To make any changes in your life you have to go back to the basics. You cannot successfully start a building or construction of any type without knowing what is going on in the foundation. Many properties have issues because they later found out the foundation was not stable. Or when a structure is being developed or considered, and they find out that, that location or foundation is a historical landmark, a place of importance or value. Even if there is nothing there on the surface, what it was founded on is far more valuable than anything that anyone can build or yield a profit from. That is the same with you, you are priceless. Going back to basics to your creator, not people, will let you know what God intended when he created you.
2. You MUST seek God for his instruction.
Word: Psalms 139: 23 - 24 (Amplified) Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Prayer: Lord God, I need you. I need your instruction. I do not want to repeat the behaviors of my past. I need you to come in and search me, investigate me, reveal to me what you approve of and what you do not approve of. Show me my wrong ways, even the things I think are right. I need you to be the author of my life. I no longer wish to write my story, but I give you all access to the outcome of my biography. Going into this New Year, please show me what YOU would have me to change. In Jesus Name. Amen
It is so easy to try to change the negatives issues; the things that you have accepted you may have. How about the things that you feel are okay? It is hard to pray about being delivered from a bad attitude when you think your attitude is fine. Praying this scripture gives God full access to come in and show you what he wants you to be. It is always free will, so this tells God truly not my will, but your will be done.
3. You MUST believe the promises.
Word: Jeremiah: 29:11 (New Living Translation) For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Prayer: Lord, I must believe your word. Even though my situation looks pretty bad, I must continue to trust you. It is not just about reading this word, reciting when appropriate, but it is about making this word alive in me. Have it be the blood that flows through my veins, the air I breathe, my source for living. Lord God have me not be surface, but have this word be my root, my foundation. Knowing your promises and plans for me keeps me on track to greatness. It will remind me and let me know that if it is not done with excellence than it is not done like you. You want me to prosper; you do not want me to fail. You want me to complete what you predestined me to accomplish. I believe you Lord. I trust you. In Jesus Name. Amen
Believe God's word about you. Have his promises flow from your mouth on a regular basis. We are in an environment where the enemy wants you to fail. He does not want you to know who you are and what you are destined to fulfill. He takes his job of killing, stealing, and destroying your dreams and future very seriously. The great thing is the devil cannot stop anything God said YES to, only YOU can. So by remembering his promises and knowing who you are you can remind the enemy that he has no power where you are concerned. In any situation, you can call on these scriptures, activate them, and change your environment and the outcome. You are that powerful.
4. You MUST depend on God for strength.
Word: Psalms 31: 24 (New International Version) Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!
Psalms 105: 4 (New Living Translation) Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him.
Isaiah 40: 31 (Amplified) But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired
Prayer: Lord God, it hurts right now. I am weary. I am tired. I am wondering, why me? What did I do to deserve the misery I feel? Don't I deserve more than what I am going through right now?
Lord, in the midst of the mess I also know that I have no other option but to seek you. No man/woman, no money, no house, no career, no car, no business opportunity, nothing can love me or satisfy like you Lord. I am hurting right now, but I also believe everything you wrote and spoke about me. I am coming to you now for strength. Your word says if I seek you, you will give me the strength to make it through. So Lord, as you remind me, who I am and what I was created to be, and show me your design, and have giveninstructions on what I need to omit and correct, Lord give me the strength to go through the process. I need you to hold me up when I want to give up. I need you Lord more than anything. I will continue to seek you in spite of the situations because I know your love for me will get me through. Knowing that I have you, I know that I can do all things. I know that as long as I have you, I know that greater is he that is in me than he, that is in the world. I know that regardless of the circumstance or situation, you are going to turn it around and work it out for my good. I stand on your word. I believe it. I trust you, and I know that it is done. In Jesus Name, Amen.
So as too many prepare to write their list of resolutions, let's take a minute. Remember that your life is attached to Purpose, you have been given the Power, and now it is time to Prepare. Prepare for a season of praying, reading devotion, and fasting, and after you have listened to the voice of God, make your list. He has given you the tools to accomplish absolutely anything. How bad do you want change? How bad do you want to live a purposeful life? Do you really wish to experience the promises? How bad do you want to complete those resolutions? Once you have really decided that you do not want to waste the precious life Christ died to give you, your possibilities are endless.
I am excited about your future, and all that God has in store for you. Do your part and be in position.
