Adam, Eve, Cain and Abel was the first earthly family
created by God. But let me propose that the real first family was and still is
The Trinity. Although the actual word, "Trinity" is not used in the Bible; its
concept most assuredly is, and its existence is supported by scripture. In the
following scriptures God describes Himself in the plural.
"Then God said, "Let us make human beings in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground" (Genesis 1:26).
"And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." (Genesis 3:22)
Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other." (Genesis 11:7)
God is one and at the same time, He is three distinct persons. He is the Father. He is the Son. He is the Holy Spirit. Each person of God, the Trinity, works together for a common goal. Isn't that what a family does? Yes, a family works together toward an ultimate common goal. The family of the Trinity works together as a perfect symphonic unit with a commonality of purpose; to reconcile mankind to Himself, God.
This issue of Christian Quarterly Magazine focuses on "The Family". Family is important to God. He created family. He created the purposes for which the family operates. Each of our articles in this issue pays homage to this great relational association.
