As a young child I was blessed with a loving family. My mom
and dad were like a match made in heaven. My siblings and I always joked that
Clyde and Gladys were destined to join their hands in marriage. Who else would
marry a "Clyde" or a "Gladys"? Their unique names brought humor and joy to
everyone in their presence.God had
blessed my mom and dad with love, and this unconditional love was a blessing
for our family and friends. I did not realize how fortunate I was to grow up in
a family of love. That is, until I grew up and experienced challenges in my own
marriage, witnessed a fifty percent divorce rate, and watched guys like Tiger,
Letterman, and Arnold sabotage their marriage and family. If God blesses His
family with unconditional love, then don't we have a responsibility to honor
our family with unconditional love?
We will honor each member of this family as God's special
gift. Live in harmony with one another; love, be sympathetic, compassionate and
humble… bless one another so that you may inherit a blessing. 1 Peter 3:8-9
This beautiful verse is a reminder that we have a
responsibility to honor God's love. What is our reward for living in harmony
with one another, for loving one another, for blessing one another, and for
being sympathetic, compassionate and humble? What is our reward for living
according to God's plan? We inherit a blessing from God! Wow, isn't this like
winning the lottery? In fact, it is better than winning a bag full of money,
because eventually the money runs out. God's blessing for us will keep us rich
in love for eternity! Once we fully understand and accept this truth, then
honoring God's word becomes a blessing for our life and the lives of our family
and friends. I know Clyde and Gladys lived their lives in the light of God's
love because I felt the warmth of their love.
The enemy wants to keep us cold and how does the enemy
block out the light? The enemy leads us into the shadows. I admit it; I have stepped
away from the light at certain times in my life. My ego followed the enemy into
the darkness, and I met other lost souls who were searching for an unfounded
truth. God gave us free will because he wanted us to choose the light way. I
felt cold and empty in the dark corners of anger, jealousy, mistrust, and a
lack of faith. Fortunately, God's love is only a bright light away. If you are
experiencing any darkness in your life; pray for God's love to light the way
out of the shadows. The enemy does not like the light or the heat of love. How
many families do you know that are being held back by the enemy? You can pray
for them too, because God needs our help in shining his love and light.
We will be faithful to the ideals and values of our
family. Two are better than one… if one falls down, the other can help him up.
A cord of three strands is not easily broken. From Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, 12b
Clyde and Gladys moved to their heavenly home too early
in life. I was disappointed with God when my dad died at age 54, and I was
furious with God when my mom joined my dad ten years later. Who was I to judge
God's plan for my parent's lives? I wanted my dad to hold his grandson, and I
wanted my mom to cradle my son for years to come. It took me a couple of years to
forgive God and to apologize for my lack of faith. My parents lived a great
life, and they left a legacy of love for all to follow. My mom cared for my dad
when the cancer stole his strength and vitality. He was slowing falling down,
as my mom was desperately trying to hold him up. I witnessed this struggle from
a distance. I was attending university on the west coast which was a long way
away my parent's loving home.If only, I
could have trusted in God's presence as the third strand in their lives. I would
have known that everything would be okay and that life would work out according
to God's plan. Perhaps God needed "Clyde and Gladys" to sing in heaven, more
than he needed them to stay here and dance on earth.
We will be grateful and content with the blessings God
has bestowed on our family. Learn to get along happily whether you have much or
little… for we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us.
Philippians 4:11,13
We are grateful to have God's blessing in our lives.
God's son taught us the most important lessons in unconditional love. Jesus
loved everyone in God's family. At times, I have had to dig deep into my
pockets of faith to find and express unconditional love. I have had to make
some difficult choices to honor God and to stay on his lighted path of love.
All families deserve unconditional love, especially broken families, mixed
families and families that are healing. If we stay true to God's love and to
his plan for our lives, then our families will feel God's unconditional love. I
have always used prayer to speak with God and to ask for his guidance. I have
learned to meditate to listen to God and to hear his message. I am writing this
article at 3:00 am because I listened to God. We need to promote his message of
unconditional love 24 hours per day and 7 days per week. Families around the
world will benefit when we honor God's message of unconditional love.
